DemandZEN Marketing Tool of the Month: Quetext
Checking plagiarism is a big deal in content marketing. Unknowingly publishing plagiarized work can damage your brand. The original publishers might also call you out on it via social media. Avoid plagiarism mistakes with Quetext.
Why plagiarism matters
Stealing content of any kind is not OK. There are plenty of stories of Instagrammers stealing pictures, musicians stealing songs, and fashion labels stealing designs. Don’t find yourself in a position where someone is calling you out for stolen content.
For companies that use external writers, it’s important to check their work for plagiarism—especially if you haven’t relied on that writer in the past. While you’re innocent in these cases, you’re still guilty of publishing stolen content. Eliminate this problem and make sure the product you’re paying for is fresh content.
But it’s not just those outside writers. Unfortunately, with so much content on the internet it can be easy to write something that sounds familiar. In some cases, you might subconsciously plagiarize something you’ve read in the past. Or, you might sound a bit too much like a source you’re referring to.
While we can’t all write about 100% unique topics 100% of the time, we can keep ourselves from accidentally copying content that already exists on the web. Protect your brand and use tools that save you from yourself.
Enter Quetext
Quetext is an online plagiarism checker that will tell you not only whether or not your content is plagiarized, but where that content came from initially if it is plagiarized.
While Quetext gives you a few free plagiarism checks for content of up to 500 words, it is then a $9.99/month subscription for a pro account. With the pro account, you have an unlimited number of plagiarism checks you can make, checking up to 25,000 words at at time.
All you need to do is copy and paste your content into Quetext, name your report, and hit submit.
Not limited to the web
While Quetext compares your content to other content on the web, it also searches across 20 million printed books and 1 million journals. While we might live on the internet, that’s not the only place where content is stolen from. Quetext’s ability to check other sources is helpful to content marketers who work in niche fields such as technology and healthcare where writers might be more likely to plagiarize a journal than another blog post.
Percentage plagiarized
One of the reasons Quetext is unique compared to other plagiarism checkers out there, is its inclusion of percentage plagiarized. Quetext goes sentence by sentence, highlighting where else on the web it recognizes that content. It also tells you to what extent (percentage wise) it is plagiarized. This means you can determine if text has been slightly rewritten at all by the original writer or if they are simply copy and pasting before sending your way.
You can even click into that original source to read that piece in full. This is important to note if you are checking on content that has already been published. It is very possible that while searching to see if you have plagiarized, you’ll discover someone else has scraped your content.
Excluding URLs
If you are checking content that has already been published, the ability to exclude URLs from your search is a vital tool. If you have a piece of content that you published on a blog, republished on LinkedIn, and then guest published somewhere else, you’ll want to exclude all of those URLs to make sure they’re not coming up in your report.
Upload files to check
If you have PDFs that are a little tricky to copy and paste, you can upload that PDF to Quetext to check for plagiarism.
Other features of Quetext include downloading a full report that you can share with team members. They also have a citation assistant that allows you to cite your sources more simply.
If you’re a content marketer, you need a good plagiarism checker. Quetext is it.
